Thom Hartmann vs. Julie Gunlock - Stop the slow poisoning of Americans.

Thom Hartmann debates Julie Gunlock, Senior Fellow-Independent Women's Forum & Director-IWF's Women for Food Freedom project over the fight against food products linked to obesity, cancer and more.

Throughout this debate, Gunlock kept ranting on about personal responsibility and ignoring Hartmann's counter arguments about poor people lacking access to the healthier alternatives to Fritos and Cheetos as well as health information. Also evaded TH's points about school vending machines.

A history of IWF by the Women's Legal Defense and Education Fund:

Originally formed in 1991 as "Women for Clarence Thomas" in an effort to secure the nominee a seat on the Supreme Court. Just what the Independent Women's Forum is independent from is unclear -- it certainly cannot claim independence from the White House with Vice-Presidential wife Lynne Cheney as Director Emeritus and ultra-conservative pundit and Bush advisor Larry Kudlow as a board member. IWF has even been awarded a grant as part of the US Department of State's $10 million Iraqi Women's Democracy Initiative to help a group of Iraqi women leaders define their role in Iraq's government.

Funding Sources: IWF is funded almost exclusively by large grants from conservative foundations with a few specific programs funded by major government grants. The private conservative foundation grants are from, for example, the Olin, Scaife and Randolph foundations, and generally are not tied to any specific programs; they are just large sums of money to be spent at IWF's discretion.

And I think of the serious discussions of the national obesity problem on TV that I've seen, interrupted by commercials for delicious food we gotta go get right now.

Would companies spend the billions on such advertising if they didn't work?

Yet we keep telling people it's all about personal responsibility. Tons of messages to eat eat eat that we're just supposed to be strong enough to resist, even though they are designed to overcome our resistance.

And foods are designed to keep us eating more and more and more.

This was not a "debate", Gunlock was just trying to cleverly lie about what's really happening...
