This video, which illustrates just how effectively the 1% dropped this country to its knees has obviously struck a raw nerve with the folks at FoxNews. They are attempting to do some pre-emptive strikes because they know it will be watched and understood by the typical FoxNews viewer. Hannity was about to jump out of his skin over it, pulling segments of it to attack. But he is only going to bring more attention to it and more FoxNews viewers are going to watch it and understand just exactly how the 1% took control of the country's wealth.... including how buying up media outlets and news organizations in order to spread the message of the obscenely-wealthy has contributed to it all. (cough... FoxNews.. cough)
No wonder they are afraid.
FoxNews viewers will actually understand it.
It's a cartoon, afterall.
Frankly, it makes a point and it sure is a powerful one.

(13,297 posts)They are wasting their time trying to deflect folks -- all the talk on FoxNews last night with Sean Hannity, Greta and the rest, plus a major revisit this morning with Tucker and Colmes is only bringing MORE attention to the video, not less.
It does show their fear of the straight-forward nature of the cartoon to get through to people that they are putting so much effort into manning the chat room with comments -- some of the same faces going over and over trying to keep positive comments pushed down. (Which only makes themselves feel better and keeps them from moving on to other tasks, so I welcome it)
In the meantime, tweets and facebook posts continue, all thanks to Fox airing it in the first place. Oh Hannity, what were you thinking putting it on national TV to give it the spotlight that it may have never gotten otherwise. Gotta love it.

(11,989 posts)IMO, nothing there will have any impact on anyone who doesn't already believe what's being said. It's too long, too angry, and not particularly entertaining. There are lots of assertions but very little information, and it overstates some of its case. For example, even the people who say that public workers are overpaid are not generally blaming them for the financial collapse, so that comes across as a bit of a strawman argument. And so on. If I wanted to try to make some impact on someone who was not already convinced about this stuff, I'd use Jon Stewart and Colbert clips. Facts and humor go further than assertions and anger.
mac56
(17,569 posts)As much as I appreciate them, a lot of people I know perceive them as being too snarky and belittling.
And if you don't think people are blaming public workers for the collapse, clearly you haven't spent any time in Wisconsin lately.
But if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you.

(53,785 posts)Stewart and Colbert are a little too highbrow for most of the FOX noise crowd they're trying to reach with this video. That's why it's a cartoon.
You can convey messages in animation (or comics, for that matter) that you can't in real life.
From "O'Donnell's Laws Of Cartoon Motion":
For every vengeance there is an equal and opposite revengeance. This is the one law of animated cartoon motion that also applies to the physical world at large. For that reason, we need the relief of watching it happen to a duck instead.

(12,958 posts)many of them are blaming public employees for the collapse.
This is very easy to pick apart. All you have to do is remind them that a few short years ago, public jobs were considered LOW paying, but with decent benefits. If they consider them to be 'high paying' now it is because republican employers have started stripping their employees of pay and benefits. It is their stupid ideology, as always.

(538 posts)The actual confrontation went like this:
The Fox producer asked Asner: Do you remember the video? Do you know what Im talking about?
I dont remember a thing I said on it or a word I said on it, Asner replied, but I agreed to do it for California teachers. I approve this message.
Theres a part of it where talking about things trickling down and they have like rich people peeing on poor people, the producer explained further.
How disgusting, Asner said. It should be reversed.
So you dont remember that? the producer asked.
Do you have any money? Asner asked with a smirk.
Yeah.
Can I piss on you? asked the actor.
And
end scene.
Pretty classy, Mr. Asner, Hannity concluded back in studio. I guess its true theres really no business like show business.

(37,305 posts)They had no idea what they were doing when they bought into a bubble, leveraged too highly, stretched their budgets too far, or used their homes as piggy banks.
All they can do is blame others because they don't understand risk and they don't understand debt.
Look at the college loan situation. It's the same exact thing and it didn't even need banks. Now it's the Government loading up kids with college debt.
Nobody learns.
drm604
(16,230 posts)Not everyone is a finance wizard, nor can everyone be expected to be one.
The banks have an obligation to lend money wisely and not make irresponsible loans. In the past, their own self interest made sure that they met that obligation. The collateralization of mortgages combined with unregulated gambling and dishonest ratings changed that equation.
And no, I don't think that anyone literally believes that money fell on their houses. It's an analogy and I'm quite certain that nearly everyone gets that.

(1 post)I have watched what the rich have done for 5 decades and tried to warn people but my words fell on deaf ears. The start of this was in 1966 when I could walk down any street and stick my head in a shop door and say I need a job. I would have one before I got three doors! Then the government told the rich they didn't have to pay benefits if they laid off people just before Thanksgiving and hired them back when they needed to do inventory. SO, that is exactly what they did!
Then the EPA came in and closed down the mines where I worked claiming that the lead dust was a hazard to the miners health and to the town. Then they closed the Cement plant for the same reason. That was followed by them claiming that the fish couldn't get up the river because of the dams so they stopped all hydroelectric dams. Then they stopped the local loggers from logging because of the "Spotted Owl" and they allowed Japanese loggers to come in and clear cut the mountains and then they shipped the trees 200 miles off the coast of Seattle where the Japanese processing ships turned the timber into plywood and sold it back to us. That caused the cost of a sheet of 3/4 plywood construction grade to go from $11.00 a sheet to $44.00 a sheet overnight!
Then they began laying off people and closing plants and sending our jobs overseas claiming that the Unions were asking too much money and they couldn't afford us anymore. When we caught them on that subject they then said that it was because we lacked the education and skills to do the jobs they had. Truth was they didn't bother to find out if we had the skills or education. They sent the jobs to China and Korea and Afghanistan and India and they brought farmers in out of the fields who obviously had more education and skills than we did here in America! Then they taught them to work in sweatshops cranking out stuff to send back here and make Wal Mart rich and Apple.
I still kept working at whatever I could and I was one of those people that did the migrant work that no American would want and I worked in the fields next to the Mexicans doing the same work. All the time the Government kept telling the middle class it was the poor that was the source of their problems because we laid up on welfare and took food stamps and made babies and didn't look for work cause we were lazy! Of course the middle class bought it and they preached it for years. All the time housing and rents kept going up and up till I couldn't afford to buy a house or even pay rent on one. The middle class wasn't worried they had credit cards and big houses and many cars and boats and ski doos and ATVs all on credit. Then one day the house of cards the rich built fell down around their ears and the too big to fail banks and insurance companies who pillaged the poor and middle class for years wanted a bail out! So everyone let them have it. THey paid themselves Humongous bonuses for failing. They went after the middle class and foreclosed on their homes and blamed them for going into debt for stuff they couldn't afford and then put them out in the street!
Now those people that used to be middle class and called me lazy are now in the same boat as I am and they want pitty! Well somehow I don't feel all that sorry for them after decades of being called lazy and having to take migrant jobs and setting sprinkler pipe in knee deep mud for ten cents a head in January with no coat and pneumonia just to feed my daughter and wife. Because of the rich and having to work part time jobs and migrant jobs I have never made more than $7000 a year! But I got my kids raised on it and now I am old and broken down and retired and get $4440 a year from Social Security and God help me if I get sick because I can't pay for medicare or Medicaid and I don't qualify for anything from the state. The Insurance companies will let me have a quarter of a million in death benefits for $29.00 a month. They want 395.00 a month for health insurance! So in short they want me to die but they don't want me to live! If I go to the bank to cash my social security they charge me $15.00 for cashing my check. I can get it at wal mart for $3.00 if I do it there. If I could afford to have a bank account with $10,000 in it I could get it done for free. So not only did they make me poor but they penalized me for being poor my whole life. However there is one thing they did not do! They didn't take my faith, my honor, or my soul! They made me a survivor! I will use my last ounce of energy and my last breath speaking out against this kind of ME attitude and the constant blocking anything that will help the working class! I went without food so I could buy a computer so I am able to have a voice. The rich will play the races and the classes and everyone against everyone as long as they can keep us divided! They blame anyone they can to take the heat off of themselves. If we don't put a stop to it there won't be any America to be proud of!! We have to shine the light in the darkest recesses of Wall Street and Big business and Big Insurance and get the prices down so we can afford the American dream that my father and mother knew. We have to HARP on JOBS JOBS and MORE Jobs till they spend some money on the poorest sectors of our society. They cry for billions for some third world country to feed the starving kids and the warrior class steals the money and food and medicine and blows up our cities! They want to take away my pitiful social security all $376 dollars a month of it! How about we take the entitlements of Congress first they get paid for life no matter how long they serve! Lets deal with THOSE entitlements first! Lets feed OUR starving and educate OUR children not teach some son or daughter of some terrorist how to go home and teach others to make bombs and such to destroy us with! Ok I have spoken my piece! God Bless America because He is the only one that seems to care!

(182,826 posts)An animated video produced by a California teachers union uses the crude imagery of a rich man urinating on common folks to decry what narrator Ed Asner claims is rich peoples refusal to pay their share of taxes.
The crude footage is part of a Tax the rich: An animated fairy tale, an eight-minute video written and directed by California Federation of Teachers communications director Fred Glass. In it, Asner describes a mythical land that seems to represent the U.S. and how it financed its services. He says the rich sought to evade taxes and put their money into Wall Street yet another clue to the real identity of the storybook country.
Dont worry, Asner says, speaking for the rich. This is good for you, too. Because it will trickle down from us to you.
