6. Aww, I wouldn't wish that on him. He really did try to help this country as a veteran,

and spent some really hard time in the captivity of people bereft of human spirit in service to us. 'Can't forget that. And he's had moments where he appeared caring.

But I think losing the Presidency hurt him, and I think he thought the people around him and the country let him down after all his good work.

Still, that's the kind of media shot one really doesn't want around much, I think

McCain has always been, and will always be, about nothing but McCain.

8. You seem to be assuming I am writing about your view, not McCains. What McCain is or isn't

in other people's eyes makes no difference in how McCain chooses to perceive things, other than how he might care. I think he views himself as a patriot and an ex-pow. I think in a contest with a senator who had not served he honestly thought people would look at him less critically. And sometimes does right things, such as telling the woman in a public setting with TV cameras that his opponent was as good an American as he was in their contest, just with different ideas. That was aces, and he should be commended for it. But then he goes and says all the other things...

As a veteran doing the duty the country asked him to do, I would have his back. If the country is wrong that's not entirely his fault - it takes a lot of people cooperating to prosecute an unjust war with what has been the most powerful army, (so far, anyway), in the world. I think people forget the sacrifices other people made so we don't have to go to school in the damn dirt, or have women killed because they looked at someone as a government policy.

But good works can be followed by rot without the required maintenance, it seems.

As you said, his troubles may stem from self-centered thinking.

... and yeah, he WAS a stand-up guy when he told that woman Obama was an American. we can agree on that one.

10. That's troubling, especially the idea that people would want our support as a returning

veteran and then apparently turn their back on their brothers and sisters. And it undergirds the assertion that he is only about himself. It really defies logic, and could easily be attributed to someone wanting to hide something terrible. I don't think people should stop trying to find out, and maybe future generations will. And perhaps the history books will warn others what we are capable of.

But it was war, it hurt a lot of people, and especially from that one much of what came from it was poison to our freedoms, imho. Maybe future generations will learn from what we did. And we could start learning any damn time now...
