Ed Asner to Fox News producer after confronted about union cartoon: ‘'Can I piss on you?’'

Suffice it to say, the interaction did not go well.

Before showing the confrontation, host Sean Hannity explained that Asner is a “radical left-wing Hollywood actor” who needed to be asked about his role in a “disgusting hit piece” on wealthy Americans.

The actual confrontation went like this:

The Fox producer asked Asner: “Do you remember the video? Do you know what I’m talking about?”

“I don’t remember a thing I said on it or a word I said on it,” Asner replied, “but I agreed to do it for California teachers. I approve this message.”

“There’s a part of it where talking about things trickling down and they have like rich people peeing on poor people,” the producer explained further.

“How disgusting,” Asner said. “It should be reversed.”

“So you don’t remember that?” the producer asked.

“Do you have any money?” Asner asked with a smirk.

“Yeah.”

“Can I piss on you?” asked the actor.

And… end scene.

“Pretty classy, Mr. Asner,” Hannity concluded back in studio. “I guess it’s true there’s really no business like show business.”

Okay. It's not as jarring as I first thought. It's a metaphor for the trickle down of the success of the uber wealthy.

People get caught short in strange situations. I'd give little creedence to his comments (though they tickle me) but of course it serves Hannity's purpose to treat them as if he's saying it on the floor of the senate and not at night on the street.

He also had a mischievous grin there at the end Fox deemed to cut off. I agree, Hannity says and does whatever best serves his purpose and thus, thinking people know he is a manipulative tool and never take him seriously.

It's unthinkable that anyone -- especially these lazy poor people -- would have the nerve to be so offensive to wealthy people who all worked so hard to inherit their money and screw over the working man every chance they got. I mean I could understand if they were making fun of a minority group with racist comments. That's acceptable. But won't anyone think of the wealthy and powerful. It's absolutely disgusting that they would even waste a minute producing this hateful and, dare I say, hurtful, cartoon.

(People at a left-leaning site are smart enough to understand sarcasm without adding a <sarcasm> tag, so I won't.)

(Wait a minute, I just did.)

People are pretty plain-spoken here. Ed Asner is pretty popular where he grew up, where at least a few old timers are still around and still stay in touch some. Me -- I don't begrudge Mr. Asner his opinion-- but I wouldn't piss down Hannity's throat if his heart was on fire. Err ... if his spleen was on fire.
