Mitch McConnell Filibusters His Own Bill

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may have made United States senate history today when he beat his own legislative baloney, blocking a straight up-or-down vote on a proposal that he, himself, offered for a vote Thursday morning. The bill, which would have taken the debt ceiling gun away from the head of the U.S. economy by requiring a two-thirds majority to override a presidential increase to the debt ceiling, was McConnell's idea, but when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid agreed with McConnell's request for a vote on the bill Thursday afternoon, McConnell objected.

What we're witnessing from these republicans is their radical departure from the era of William F. Buckley ( who I almost always disagreed with ), when conservatives would debate & discuss issues on their merits, and when those discussion had a serious intellectual component.

After Barack Obama was elected a large segment of the republican conservative population chose to take an angry reaction in the form of the so-called tea party. The 2010 mid-term elections was their opportunity to elect representatives they believed would stop Obama, even if it meant causing the government to grind to a halt, they got what they voted for and now they're seeing their own wrong-headedness, poll results indicate that.

Mitch McConnell proves to me that his party is in a real bind because the core economic principles they've espoused as disciples of Reaganomics have been exposed for all it's flaws, "voodoo economics" as then presidential candidate George H.W. Bush called it, but it's all they know.

It's the same as people devoted to particular religious beliefs, no proof is needed, just believe.
