Resuming life...after tragedy. The Last Fare of the Day

It's been a difficult week. Adjusting to what happens.

My wife had a holiday gathering with one of her groups tonight. I went across the street to the market to get some kalamata olives, pepperoncini, and a loaf of take & bake olive bread to augment a big salad for my dinner. The young woman at the checkout was not one of the regulars. Her name tag read: Grace.

I said to her that she had a beautiful name. She smiled and said "I've always liked it."

Then I told her the story of this song by Richard Shindell. A song written after 9/11. A song about a New York City cab driver. About someone doing what they needed to do. About someone taking people where they needed to go, after a tragedy.

Or, as life goes on, after a miracle, taking them to Hope or to Grace. "And so it starts, the heavens give"

Finding the flow. Minding the sway. I brought them home.
