(23,156 posts)I wonder if that would work here, and I wonder what the kids would have done if the adult had gone ahead and given them a light?
Well before the Surgeon General's report about smoking in 1964, we all knew how bad cigarettes were. More to the point, I don't believe I've ever heard an adult smoker express a wish that their children would take up smoking.
Some years back some group, probably MADD did a series of ads which simply were home videos mostly of children. Then the screen would go black and you'd learn the child (or in some cases an entire family) had been killed by a drunk driver. The most powerful ads ever, in my opinion.
Because smoking does not end lives so dramatically, it's a bit harder to do a good, effective ad, but this one is very good.

(110,159 posts)is because it is talking to the smoker in love, not hate. the smoking commercials i have seen and like with the one you suggest more put the back up. this one is gentle. people already know it is bad. as with other things we do to ourselves that are not healthy. to beat a person up to get behavior to change, scientifically does not work.
the same the spanking to change behavior. as opposed to guidance in right and the person making the decision.
that is why i like this commercial. it is gentle reminder of love to self.
