(29,067 posts)those personages and the religions they symbolize are altogether forgotten
here when certain atheists here seek a religion to "parody" and sneer at.
When those religions, their founders and followers come even CLOSE to being
mocked and villified in the manner in which Christianity is, I may feel more moved to dispassionate inquiry.

You're kidding, right?
You think Christianity is more vilified than Islam? In this country?
And have you never heard of anti-Semitism? The only religious intolerance that has its own name!

(52,589 posts)The mythicists are suspect and there is much more scholarship there was. Of course, the historical Jesus wasn't a deity. The church decided he was for their purposes around 400 years after his death.

holiday of Hanukkah recently passed without snickers, sneers, or "parodies"
No, Christianity is their only real target, in practice, if not philosophy,
and they refuse to distinguish between "right wing Christianity"
or the other types, even though the latter outnumber the former.
What's stands in almost humorous self-contradiction, is their attitude toward
OTHER religions, like Judaism, or Islam. Criticism of even the more extreme
elements or traditions of these, will tend to get you flamed for "bigotry" or "cultural intolerance".
Merry Christmas.
