Mike Malloy reviews Obama's inaugural address (4 videos)
(All videos are subtitled and even have moving picture of Obama to go w/the soundbites!)
In the show open from Tuesday night (Jan. 21), Malloy gave a general review of the speech and then speculates: what if Al Gore won in 2000?
Mike begins playing short clips of the speech and giving his own commentary in the second segment of the first hour. In this segment, Mike plays clips such as "we must do these things together, as one nation and one people" and mocks how conservative viewers would react.
Next segment: Mike plays clips of Obama talking about environmental and foreign policy. Mike calls on the president to veto Keystone XL and then rants extensively against US imperialism and skeptically about warfare in response to Obama's sentence: "Our citizens, seared by the memory of those we have lost, know too well the price that is paid for liberty."
Finally, Mike compares Obama's speech with Martin Luther King's 1967 "
Beyond Vietnam" speech, finding that MLK was more aggressively and openly critical of US interventionism than Obama ever has been as president.
