I think he does have a few good points, but where he loses me is when he starts with the "less and less people are buying more and more guns". That is factually not true. While the percentage of households with guns has decreased since the 1970's (it has pretty much plataued since the early 1990s) that does not mean there are less gun owners. Why- well, population has grown.

To counter Mr. Hayes, I offer the another possible explanation to this NRA dysmophism- the average gun owner has changed, not just the "fringe". It is true that hunting has been on the decline but its decline has not mirrored that of gun ownership. More guns are now being bought for non-hunting reasons and with the advent of shall issue CCW- guns being bought for self defense are becoming more and more prevalent.

But in truth I think the NRA has gone a little off the deep end. The thing we have to keep in mind is, just because the membership as a whole might disagree with polices on doctor questioning and background checks, doesnt mean they are also on board with legislation that would ban "Assault weapons"
