Tim Shorrock: Only Way Out of North Korea Nuclear Crisis is for U.S. to Embrace Direct Talks

To watch the 10-minute interview with Tim Shorrock on Democracy Now!, visit http://owl.li/hEn2T.

As United Nations Security Council holds an emergency meeting after North Korea conducted its third ever nuclear test in defiance of U.N. orders, journalist Tim Shorrock tells Democracy Now! the United States should respond to the test by holding direct talks with the North Korean regime. "North Korea has been saying for years they would like to have a peace agreement to formally end the [Korean] war, and they would like to have negotiations directly with the United States," Shorrock says. "The only way out of this for the U.S. is to hold direct negotiations and talks with North Korea on stopping its nuclear program and stopping its missile program."

Only when more people realize that jingoism and imperialism are counterproductive will there be any resemblance of peace in this world.

But how do we do so? That the $64,000 question.

China worries if they get rough with North Korea the regime collapse and they will have people coming over their borders, and that Korea will be unified under Seoul an America ally.
