(15,805 posts)I like a good suspenseful plot, and I like getting scared and surprised, but all the senseless blood and guts just grosses me out. Its as if the screenwriters just throw in one gory scene after another because the plot is so weak and it's easier to apply some latex and pour on the fake blood.

(16,402 posts)Ditto "fun houses." I never could understand why some people think having themselves scared or horrified out of their wits is "entertainment." And yes, I know it's all fake, but it doesn't matter.
Friends have said, "Come on, it'll be fun!" and my reaction is always a nonnegotiable "No, thanks, but you go right ahead." I've canceled movies at home early for being scarier or gorier (or dumber) than expected and refuse to expose myself knowingly to so-called "entertainment" that gives me no pleasure whatsoever.
That being said, here's a great list of Halloween-appropriate movies that are entertaining rather than scary: 15 Halloween Movies for Wimps. You're welcome!

Haven't ever read a Stephen King book, and don't plan to.

(12,157 posts)I like movies and books that tell a story, with good character development. I've read a few King books Salem's Lot comes to mind that were very well done, but all in all I don't care for horror.
