(205,384 posts)How are things going behind the curtain? I'm adjusting, though I do keep a lookout, it's a habit that's impossible to break...
And no, winter doesn't come this early in my neck-of-the-woods, think we only had one frost warning. The problem is, once we do get snow, it takes forever to go away. It's not unusual in April, remember one year we had a serious blizzard in May! I'm not a fan of snow... and neither is my dog, he's short.
Hope all is going well for you, too - with the news these days getting more dire, it helps to hang onto a sense of humor. *sigh*

(18,479 posts)We got a letter that my wife's medical insurance may increase about $450/month. That will things rather tight. We have to return the sell the vintage MB 600 limo and cut the driver to 3 days/week.
We lived near Jamestown, NY for bit. We got flurries the morning after we moved there, May 11th and it flurried again week before Halloween.
Glad to hear that you're flake free so far.
We have 3 dogs that are all short. I'll let you know about their snow-scepades.
I've now got a local job that is good as I actually sleep in my own bed every night but it does eat up more time commuting. I'm not able to spend as much time troll hunting as before but it beats $550/week on unemployment. Your watchfulness is appreciated. It takes a village to MIRT well.
Have a very early pic of the first family (Jared, Ivanka and 45):
I knew she wasn't a real blonde!
Dad looks a bit better with the monocle, too.
Have a great week.

(205,384 posts)They sure are good at hurting Americans where it hurts most! How is that acceptable from an American president?? Isn't the whole job about making life better for all citizens?? And, of course, keeping us out of war??
And Jamestown (Lucille Ball's home town ) is on the other side of the state, though their winters aren't any better. I'm in the Northeast, Adirondack foothills, not too far from Vermont, just south of Lake George if you know where that is.
But just a year ago we had a severe weather event, it was the last Thursday last October. I was supposed to show up at an event for a couple of friends of mine and it was my job to pick up the cake. It appeared to be snowing when I started out, unheard of in fall in the North Country. But I started out anyway, I live on a street off of a street off the main road, so it's tough to tell what's going on closer to town. But the main road was even worse, big wads of snow falling and the trees along the road were already covered. Fortunately, traffic was creeping along, nobody was going over 20. I got scared so I pulled into a side road (where I got stuck) to call another friend to ask if we were still doing this. She said "I'm the only one here."
So I persevered, the 10 minute drive to the store took me a half hour and the girl at the check out told me about how scared she had been driving. The two honorees showed up, but that only made seven of us. One of the women left to check on things at home and never came back, trees were down and she couldn't get out of her driveway. I followed one of the others out and noticed things looked awfully dark. Turns out the traffic lights were out, the main road had lost power.
Because it was fall, there were still leaves on the trees and the ground was still warm, not frozen, trees came down all over the area, lots of buildings were damaged, too, and power lines were down, there were outages all over. We seem to be having more severe weather every year, lots of rain and wind storms, too. But that one was definitely one for the record books!
And congrats on the job! But you know what "we" say, real life comes first! And I do miss the friendliest place on the board!
And how did you find such a flattering photo of the "first family??" Have a good week, too - it's great to see you on the board...

(18,479 posts)A few years back when the ACA was passed, I figured there was a good chance that it would happen this way: Democrats start the program and get insurance for the working poor and low income folks by funding a program and slightly increasing costs for the rest of us. Then the GOP would eventually get control and defund the program so costs rise sharply for the middle class. Here we are. When those bastards are shown to the curb I hope a passing soaks them with a splash from the worlds biggest puddle.

I know she was born in Jamestown lived within the city for a bit (I think near 3rd & Harding). Then her family moved to Celeron where she grew up on what is now Lucy Lane. (Used to be 8th Street)
I know the area. I went to a few conferences here: https://goo.gl/maps/MVJviyZvmsP2
That was years ago. Beautiful area. I drove through the Albany area a couple years ago for work on my way to Pittsfield.
For your next vehicle purchase my I suggest a gurkha Made in Canada. About $400k.
Thanks for the congrats and I hope your drives to work will be safe ones this Winter. Do you have to go far? I've had several jobs that were nasty long drives and nightmarish in evil weather.
The "first family"??? I have no words for them. Maybe most of the damage they do will be quickly corrected when a decent person is elected.
Have a nice day.
