First day on new job

Same union different local and today is what I dread. Today it will be all movies and safety procedures going over the new hand held computers and cameras in tractors. Three of us came here from a union company that moved south to get out of paying pensions and decent wages, my two friends and I were fortunate to find this and we all came on board as yard jockeys. I think we’re all just tired of running the road as truck drivers. In that we’re just working towards the pensions at the end of the job. I’m 51 and am closing in on 30 years in this union but I do not want to retire until our two sons thru college and their 12 and 13. As my wife and I were fortunate to get our three grown daughters thru university.

So as I sit here waiting to be bored watching movies all day I keep in mind that I’m being paid full hourly rate to do this. And they have free coffee and they told us they will be providing subs for lunch. And it appears all three of us union immigrants will be on the same shift. So at least I’ll have two other jokers to work with as our sense of humors are very similar.

retired for almost 16 years. Only 68, so I’ve been able to enjoy these years.

I sometimes think that unions should offer some kind of auxiliary membership for any who are in non union shops and professions. All working people need competent representation, especially in the current anti labor climate.

They have helped me in so many ways. Not only do they help me at work and with continuing education, I am currently getting some expensive dental work done at a clinic that gives 30% off for my union. Between the union discount and insurance I am saving thousands.
