Is anyone thinking about switching to a plant-based diet?

I switched to a plant-based diet for a couple of weeks over the summer, but switched back. My excuse was that I was cooking for others who wanted meat for dinner. This year our Thanksgiving reunion potluck dinner included both plant-based and traditional dishes. The vegan dishes tasted so much better.

Plant Based News' end of year film Vegan 2017 is here.

Not quite there yet, but getting closer.

I'm still trying to get around the high cost of nondairy Greek-style yogurt and cheeses, and I'm still not very good at reading every ingredient on every label for possible hidden animal sources, but I'm getting there. The next major undertaking will be making my own Greek-style nondairy yogurt from nondairy milk I make myself; I just haven't had the time lately to delve into it.

There are SO many excellent vegetarian and vegan recipes out, and so many excellent products that can ease the transition, that it's really no sacrifice at all anymore. Good for your health, good for the animals, and good for the planet. What's not to love?

If you're on Facebook, there's a really excellent group that's very active with both newbies and experienced vegans, dozens of wonderful recipes and ideas every day. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/34899599583/

my eyesight is failing.

I read that as a "paint based" diet.

and thought, "with this pResident, it's gonna be lead paint".

I apologize for stepping on your OP.

With this president and his political appointees, everything we eat is likely to become more contaminated.

Now you've made me hungry and it's past bedtime, but I've got two portobellas in the fridge just waiting for that kind of treatment tomorrow.

Vegan seems to be the most extreme vegetarian diet. A lot of my friends are lacto-ovo vegetarian, and that gives them a much more flexible diet.

Not all cows are treated badly. I also have chickens and they free range when the weathers good.

If you object to the "violence" involved in the dairy industry,

Are you aware of what is involved with milking a soybean or an almond?

However, I could not be vegan because 90% of my protein comes from dairy.

Before you ask-- at Thanksgiving I ate an apple pie with almonds in it. I stopped at no fewer than 3 gas station bathrooms and lost my dessert on the way home. I never really liked nuts, but something about those almonds made me lose my entire dinner. I'm never eating nuts again.

It's not unusual for people to be made nauseated by apples - there's a thing called oral allergy syndrome that can cause this, and it can turn up unexpectedly. Listeria germs are also common on apples, though they should have been killed off by baking the pie - we hope. Just saying, the problem might not be the almonds.

Then I was with someone who was a meat eater. I'm not with them anymore so I think I will go back to being a vegetarian. I had a vegetarian thanksgiving this year. I'm not a big fan of turkey so I just had sides.
