I'm writing postcards to Democrats in Alabama, urging them to vote next Tuesday. So far I've written 20+ postcards and my wrist feels like it's going to fall off. I'm trying to do 20 more, but it's killing me.
Kind words would be welcome.
Update: it's 12:15. I have 10 postcards left. And 5 stamps. Not sure if I'll do all 10 or just 5. But I feel good about this. I think I crafted a good message, which many DUers helped me whittle down into something powerful. If 10 of the people I have written to are moved to vote, I will be very happy. OK, 4 people. 10%. I'll take that.
Update: 1:23am - I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forty stamps, forty post cards. And maybe 4 more votes. Eight if they take friends!
Thank you all for your encouragement.
From the bottom of my heart, each message helped.
Me.
(35,454 posts)20 in a row is a lot, take a break and begin again tomorrow. You'll still have time to write and send.
Nice job.
They have to be in the post office tomorrow morning.
I just counted. I've actually only done 17.
I ordered 40 custom post cards and bought 40 stamps. The postcards say "Vote December 12th" so I can never use them again. It would be a waste not to use them...

(42,641 posts)Acting as well as talking here.
I first started taking my children on get out the vote walks when they were 7 and 4. They would stand on the porch with me as I handed out literature and talked with voters.
We still do phone banking, and house walking, and demonstrating. All aprt of being a citizen.
Again, thank you for your efforts.
Edited to add: Recommended.

(6,148 posts)I feel personally responsible for the fact that Hillary lost PA. If I had campaigned there, if I had gotten my friends to campaign there, maybe we could have made a difference. But I sat on my ass...
I have been getting involved in campaigns for the last 16 years. Mom was big with the League of Women Voters, and when we were in college, she would send us absentee ballots. Voting is VERY big in my family and we are always informed voters. But something kicked in when Bush was elected, and I realized that while I may only have one vote, if I can influence others, then it's like having two votes, or 10 votes. So I campaign.
I exhausted myself supporting a primary candidate in 2016 and it left me very bitter. I don't like primaries... heck, I just don't like losing! At any rate, I pick and choose how I get involved. But when I heard about this postcard writing campaign, I really felt called to act.
Two stamps left and then I'm going to bed. It's 12:52 EST.

(4,221 posts)Maybe put some ice + water + salt in a baggie, wrap in a paper towel and rest your wrist on it for a minute every few minutes. Will keep it from swelling more than it has.

(6,148 posts)The ice helped a lot. I wrote 2 with very little pain.

(3,275 posts)I hope your wrist feels better. You will need those hands to clap when Jones is victorious on Tuesday.
