I recall it snowing in Austin on Valentine's Day 2004. Very cool!

(21,717 posts)That's what we call snow that sticks to the grass, but not the roads. It is my favorite kind of snow, you don't have to shovel it. You just say, "Oh look, it's snowing"

(25,380 posts)But it was raining for almost two days prior. It is supposed to freeze, so we will have ice. No shoveling though. School will be cancelled. (They cancel school every time there is any winter precip)

(16,383 posts)I wonder if they'll call a snow day tomorrow? LOL. Here in Colorado it has to be a really bad snow storm for a snow day. I grew up in Memphis and can remember maybe two snow days in fifteen years. So exciting!

(25,380 posts)The reliable snowplow would seal our fate for the day.
Around here they cancel everything for just about every type of winter precip.
This snow is really cool.

(6,122 posts)We had maybe one school cancellation a year. It was a joyful experience. We'd hear it on the radio, jump up and down for awhile, then go out and play in it.

(17,045 posts)tonight in Austin. Took me TWO hours to go 13 miles to get home.
The snow was beautiful and it's stuck to grass and trees... it'll all be gone tomorrow. It sure was pretty to look at though. When I finally drove up my hood I could see the neighbor kids making tiny snowmen in their yards!
For a native Central Texan this was a BIG DEAL!

but
we are supposed to get snow this far south "all day" tomorrow, when the HIGH will be 38.
the price we pay for normally not too bad winters.

Not once.
Thanks for nothing, San Antonio. This is why I moved away...
I assume you weren't here in 1985 when it snowed for 2 days straight. We accumulated 16 inches. And stupid me went to an NCLEX review class that they refused to cancel at Incarnate Word. When I got out of class at around 1 pm, there was 6 inches on the ground. My parents lived over near the airport. It took me hours to get home. My car was doing donuts the whole way home. Every single business was closed on San Pedro. I got home around 4.
It was just awful and very scary. I'm from Wisconsin, but this was the scariest thing.
My family moved away for good long before that.
