(6,625 posts)I might not be telling you anything you don't already know, but it looks like a Gretsch Country Club.
Gretsch still exists as a brand, and while I don't think they make that model any more, they do make a lot of "retro" models -- both reissues of the classics of the '50s and '60s and some "neo-retros" that never existed back then but look as if they could have. They have several lines of varying prices, depending on which Asian country they're made in: Japan, China, or Indonesia, in descending order.
However, if you want an American-made Gretsch from the early '60s, such as the one you see there, you'll have to look harder and pay more. And if you want the one that Howard Roberts played behind Shelley Fabares on The Donna Reed Show, well ...
(I'm pretty sure, it's Howard Roberts, even though he was more of a Gibson guy than a Gretsch guy. He played on the recording, and it really looks like him.)

(16,382 posts)Well, it wasn't THAT long ago. I was in my early 30s (ok, it WAS that long ago) and working for a Piper dealership at an airport. Johnny was a pilot for an oil company and used to walk through the FBO every now and then. Soooo hot. I dated several guys from the FBO but Johnny never seemed remotely interested. Sigh. I still think about him when I hear the song.

(28,125 posts)Thanks for posting this. I'd never seen that. Guess I must've been brain dead in 1962. (Actually, my fundie parents prohibited popular music. Sad but true.)
She's been married to Mike Farrell for some time now.

(2,883 posts)I have always liked her and her Aunt Nanette, who is still with us at 97 ! Luckily for me I was raised in a family that was all about music, with 3 sisters and 2 brothers and Mom who loved music and played piano by ear, I got the best of all decades. I did not know that she was married to Mike. Thanks for the clip.

(28,125 posts)I remember her Aunt Nanette - shows how old we are! Didn't Nanette have a hearing deficit?
She and Mike seem well suited for each other - both kind, liberal people.

(2,883 posts)Nanette always held her pinky up? I am not familiar with sign language? I am 58, truth be told.

(2,883 posts)Was her pinky in a J swoop, I remember her.

(28,125 posts)I'm an old boomer.
My mother liked music up until the mid 50's (remember the Hit Parade?); any pop music after that was too sexy and forbidden. My father disliked all music that wasn't country or religious (I still hate both genres). But I love music of the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Lukewarm about the 50s; love the 60s, 70s, some of the 80s.

(2,883 posts)She had always had difficulty in school due to an diagnosed hearing impairment, which made learning difficult. She eventually was diagnosed with a hearing loss in her 20s after an acting teacher encouraged her to get her hearing tested. Fabray said of the experience, "It was a revelation to me. All these years I had thought I was stupid, but in reality I just had a hearing problem."
Fabray overcame a significant hearing impairment and has been a long-time advocate for the rights of the deaf and hard of hearing. Her honors representing the handicapped include the President's Distinguished Service Award and the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award.
The pinky swoop is sign language for Hi.

(28,125 posts)Many people think they are stupid because of some learning disability. (I've had personal experience with that phenomena.)
Nanette is a most admirable person. Hope she makes it to 100yo.

(2,883 posts)Nanette really is admirable and honorable, I could not get math, I used to cry at a very young age, I just did not get it. I could do basic math, anything beyond that I was lost. Fractions really sent me into a tizzy.

(8,051 posts)activists. I have the utmost respect for these two progressives! Also, Donna Reed was a wonderful progressive as well. I read an article that said the principles of The Donna Reed Show cast were very, very close.
