Snorkel. Walker also created the strips "Hi And Lois", "Boner's Ark", and "Sam's Strip". He also founded a museum devoted to the art of cartooning.
RIP to a great American creative genius.

...is that it wasn't originally a military strip. In its first year(s?) it was set at a college, with Beetle and Plato students and frat brothers. After a time, Walker decided, based on his own experiences in the Army, that it was a more fertile ground for his type of humor, and re-launched the strip with the two of them recast as new recruits.

Is that Beetle is Lois Flagston's brother from Hi and Lois.
