(58,785 posts)That's so nice.
One of our grandsons at almost 2 years old stood for almost half an hour staring at the elephants at the zoo. We sat down and watched him in bemusement and only got him away by promising we'd come back. He was far too young to tell us what he was thinking. Perhaps he was an elephant in another life.

(31,525 posts)Here is a video of two old friends meeting after a 20 year absence. This brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.
I don't understand how anyone can hunt them for sport (and I'm sure you know who I mean).

(18,219 posts)I have shared it with more people than any other video. I first saw it on PBS then found it on YouTube and everyone I know has had to watch it. This is the most moving video I have ever seen. If anyone thinks that elephants are not intelligent, they need to see this.

(32,047 posts)I was appalled and sickened at the photo of Donnie Jr. holding up the tail of an elephant, like a prize, that he cut off after one of his appalling safaris.
My wish was that a herd of angry elephants would have "taken care of him".

Love the way the elephants reach their trunks into the enclosure to touch and welcome the new sanctuary member.

(14,164 posts)Christian Dominianist think nature is God's gift to man to plunder, ravage, and exploit.
Once man has gummed everything up God will return with Divine intervention and correct the mess man made - returning nature to it's former pristine beauty.
That is why nuclear and toxic waste are deemed by Fundi-Christians as being inconsequential - not worthy of concern and/or discussion.
God stands ready to fix all of man's blunders.
Have fun and be merry - freely rape the land for your pleasure and enjoyment.

(3,328 posts)I love their excitement, as they trek across their enclosure calling out loud to the orphaned baby elephant. Then they gather around the pen to look, and reach out to the new arrival.
