I dusted off the scotch bottles, this morning. Literally

The top is from 'Old St. Andrews' and is a 21 year old scotch. It was a gift to my uncle, from his neighbors, and there is still a small amount in the bottle.

The bottom one I bought, as a gift for my Dad, when I took my 'I can't believe I'm doing this' cruise on the QE2, from New York to Southampton. It was 1982 and, as I recall, it cost me $40. It came in a beautiful presentation box that is around here, somewhere. Between the two of us, we finished it off. I keep the empty bottle on display because it makes me think of Dad, and that always makes me smile.

It seems my uncle wasn't much of a scotch drinker.

And I remember my Dad being pretty impressed with what came out of the QE2 bottle. He was a fan of single malt, as am I.

My dad was also a scotch man. Those bottles are special. They once held mere alcohol, but now they hold precious memories.

My Dad always taught us that one should appreciate liquor for the taste, not for the effect. I have many great memories of sitting with him, sipping on a drink and talking for hours. We still toast him at every holiday meal.
