The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI dusted off the scotch bottles, this morning. Literally
The top is from 'Old St. Andrews' and is a 21 year old scotch. It was a gift to my uncle, from his neighbors, and there is still a small amount in the bottle.
The bottom one I bought, as a gift for my Dad, when I took my 'I can't believe I'm doing this' cruise on the QE2, from New York to Southampton. It was 1982 and, as I recall, it cost me $40. It came in a beautiful presentation box that is around here, somewhere. Between the two of us, we finished it off. I keep the empty bottle on display because it makes me think of Dad, and that always makes me smile.

(26,308 posts)It seems my uncle wasn't much of a scotch drinker.
And I remember my Dad being pretty impressed with what came out of the QE2 bottle. He was a fan of single malt, as am I.

(26,308 posts)My Dad always taught us that one should appreciate liquor for the taste, not for the effect. I have many great memories of sitting with him, sipping on a drink and talking for hours. We still toast him at every holiday meal.
