Can you play music CD in a laptop? I'm new to such technology. (Original Post) applegrove Apr 2012 OP
Music CDs and movie DVDs as well. Even Blu-Ray if your optical drive is a Blu-Ray... Systematic Chaos Apr 2012 #1

...but those aren't standard in computers yet, so unless yours is close to top-of-the line you're probably restricted to CDs and DVDs.

When you pop the CD in, it should cue up in the Windows Media Center or some related program. If not, come back and let us know and I'm sure someone can help you.

When you put in a CD the computer should launch whatever application it uses to play the CD. You'd play it from that application. Nothing to it!

the speakers will probably disappoint. You can buy some nice external speakers to exploit the soundcard capability in your laptop. You use the headphone jack as the sound output to the speakers. I've got a set of Logitech speakers that handle 5.1 stereo with a separate powered bass....no need anymore for a separate receiver, CD player, IMHO.

You can listen on headphones, or find yourself some inexpensive speakers...

Just be sure to check the specs and make sure the connection matches your computer (You're most likely looking for miniplug- aka headphone or 1/8" plug. Most laptops have a couple of USB ports as well- if you have a free port you can also use USB speakers)
