But I did, a few years ago. On NETFLIX, I think.

The books were out standing and the series was really good also. The ship I was on
we were on a med cruise. One Sunday while a slow day u/w I started getting the wardroom
hooked on it. After every cd we would take a break and everyone would run out and
check on what was going on, Capt to the bridge, department heads checking the all was running
well and their sailors were getting rest instead of working. Great afternoon and one of the few
where everyone was relaxed for a change.

Read the books if possible, movie follows them as much as possible.

Really exciting stuff! I loved them.

My favorite non-fiction in the same genre is Two Years Before the Mast. I first read that in high school in 1961 or so, and have re-read a couple times since.

Maybe it didn't do that well at the box office. Which is too bad, because that movie was terrific.

But it's been too long, I think.

Closing scene, with the Boccerini piece, is one of the best final scenes in film history.

When the music cuts out over the seascape of the HMS Surprise in pursuit of the Acheron, and all that's left is the wind blowing, it's breathtaking...

it didn't make the big bucks. Cost: 150M, gross: 212M. Also, the timing was unfortunate; it came out at the same time as Return of the King. Otherwise, a good chance it would have scored best picture; it was nominated.

Master and Commander.

In the early 1950s I saw the movie Captain Horatio Hornblower, and I liked it so much, I named my new kitten Horatio Hornblower. My mom called him Harold, though, and it stuck with everyone but me.
