I own the DVD too, it was like $2 when Blockbuster folded.

It's good but it's really depressing.

but, yes, I would say it was indeed a buzz kill. If one is seeking a reward in watching a film, there isn't much of one here. Pretty much a dismal reality.

It is depressing. At first, so full of hope and excitement for the future and later depression in the face of adversity. It was the first movie of DiCaprio's when I thought he had truly grown up and had a serious role.
Let us know what you think of it.

(I did) it has that essence about it. A quiet film, in a different era dealing with
the human condition.

about suburban despair just under the surface in the 1950s. Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet do a great job in it. All the actors do.

I've seldom seen such a boring piece of drivel. The dialogue is corny, the chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet is non-existent, the story is clichéd, the characters are cardboard cut-outs, every emotion the characters display are ridiculously over-acted, half of the time they're just yelling instead of acting, and after half an hour you just don't care anymore what happens.
