(20,176 posts)I own the DVD too, it was like $2 when Blockbuster folded.
It's good but it's really depressing.

(10,888 posts)but, yes, I would say it was indeed a buzz kill. If one is seeking a reward in watching a film, there isn't much of one here. Pretty much a dismal reality.

(2,682 posts)It is depressing. At first, so full of hope and excitement for the future and later depression in the face of adversity. It was the first movie of DiCaprio's when I thought he had truly grown up and had a serious role.
Let us know what you think of it.

(21,901 posts)tend to be depressing (I don't know why I like them so much)
but I recommend these.
Revolutionary Road
Disturbing the Peace
The Easter Parade
Cold Spring Harbor

(4,310 posts)(I did) it has that essence about it. A quiet film, in a different era dealing with
the human condition.

(53,410 posts)about suburban despair just under the surface in the 1950s. Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet do a great job in it. All the actors do.

(72,790 posts)I thought it would be better. Some good acting, though. Was just a bit disappointed.

(5,909 posts)Kate deserved the Oscar--very depressing but the kitchen scene was hot.

(5,744 posts)I've seldom seen such a boring piece of drivel. The dialogue is corny, the chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet is non-existent, the story is clichéd, the characters are cardboard cut-outs, every emotion the characters display are ridiculously over-acted, half of the time they're just yelling instead of acting, and after half an hour you just don't care anymore what happens.
