(28,941 posts)It was his father, Uther. Further, that wasn't sex; it was rape. Finally, the genitals weren't restricted by the faulds, the skirting around the cuirass. Otherwise, knights couldn't urinate.
Pineapples in medieval Europe? Yup, made the same mistake in The Lion in Winter. You'll never find total authenticity in any film about the middle ages. Don't get me started on the heraldry.
Back on the subject: Williamson was a limited actor, can't imagine him doing comedy. However, in his comfort zone, he was terrific. Loved him in The Seven Percent Solution.

My kooky teacher was actually pausing and rewinding that scene like John Madden with a telestrator...
"AND NOTE HERE THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN UTHER'S CLIMAX AND THE DUKE'S DEATH WHICH OCCUR AT THE EXACT SAME MOMENT! SEE HOW THE EXPRESSIONS ON EACH MAN'S FACE ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL...!"
And this was an ultra-conservative Catholic school, by the way

Was that kooky teacher a nun?

(1,896 posts)The score makes up for a lot. When the drawbridge goes down just as the kettle drums go off, it's transcendent.

(66,379 posts)I've always loved the movie.
It introduced me to the music of Richard Wagner.
I love the green-tinted moments of supernatural power.
And the finale, scored to Siegfried's Funeral March and set against that blood-red sunset, is amazingly moving.
