...so far it has always turned out that I was trying to assemble it wrong, and the holes were right all along.

never again. Worst design I've ever had (and I've built a lot of cheap, crappy "furniture" from boxes over the years). This was just a simple 7 foot tall by 3 feet wide unit with 4 shelves. All held together with those cam bolt thingies BUT the front facing edges were 6' long trim pieces that had grooves cut into the back side and they "slid" onto leading edge of the side walls. All particle board. I don't know if anybody told these numbnuts at Sauder but particle board ain't given to sliding.

I ended up having to hammer them to get them all the way on and, of course, that ruined the bottoms where I was hitting.

So if any of you watch the Santa Clarita Diet and remember the episode from this season where Timothy Olyphant was admiring the craftmanship of a custom built bookcase you'll understand why I was laughing and crying my ass off at that part. I may have to get me some tools so I can build my own stuff out of real wood. Even as a complete n00b I should be able to build something better than that Sauder piece of shit.

Every dresser, every bookcase, the entertainment center, the dining room table, the kitchen cart, and the futon. When my new bed was delivered, the deliveryman's partner was sick that day. I helped him put the bed together because I had experience doing that sort of thing.

Don't hate me, but I had fun putting them together. On the rare occasions that I have a couple hours free and nothing to do, I go to the Ikea store just to look around.
