Anyone watching Lost in Space on Netflix? SPOILERS

I like it better than the movie, but there are tweaks that feel like metal on a cavity.

The character who plays Dr. Smith is just too unlikable. I don't see where she finds redemption in the next season to turn into a long-term character. But then again, we won't be calling her Dr. Smith next season. It's one thing to be a bungling-meddler, and another to be a total socio-path who deserves to be fed to space beasties.

I like the interplay between all the Robinson family characters and Don, which, as we know, are the essential characters.

And poor robot. His character is so schizophrenic that I can't decide if he will ever be embraceable as our Robot from the original series.

I am okay with young Will Robinson being a little less of a perfect genius than our original Will Robinson. It's more believable. And it looks like he's going to be less gullible next season, so I'm okay when there's room for growth.

television show I believe in the 1960s that was campy but enjoyable. Dr. Smith (male) was a self-absorbed asshole who was scary as hell but also devilish. Will Robinson was smitten by him and was the brains in that duo.

Particularly when adapted from books. Things tend to be done a bit more accurately these days, which makes me excited for a number of new attempts.

The anti-reboot/remake crowd can be fun to watch, especially when you discover how many things they enjoy that are just new adaptations of Shakespeare's works.

See, I don't remember Dr. Smith that way. He may have been evil, but he was also a bungler. And he was the comic relief, at least on the Spanish channels where they gave him a wimpy, clown voice.

And I know that he never crossed the line where he killed someone.

...I already pay too much... I pay for High Def and can't keep track of the channels I have.

Dr Smith's original mission was to kill the Robinsons - and he tried several times. He also programmed the Robot to kill them, but that failed. I believe he killed a guard on the way to stowaway on the spaceship, in the first episode.

During the first season, he became more sympathetic... more of a clown, yes. He would then bungle them into danger, or be led away by greed.

I will wait until the new series goes to DVD.

Make an account each with Hulu, Acorn and Netflix and opt for the monthly payment. And only watch one a month - binging on their new shows. You will only have to pay whatever account is active. Just be sure to cancel out before the start of the next monthly payment.

For example, Acorn is great when Doc Martin series comes in, Netflix is great for Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things. And Hulu for the Hand Maiden's tale.

Dr. Smith had to board Jupiter 2 in order to program the robot to kill the Robinsons, but was trapped onboard (after dealing with the guard) and very definitely did not want to be there. But yes, the original Dr. Smith of the first few episodes was purely malicious and self-serving, but transformed (along with the series itself) into something more campy than serious.

Nice interview with Jonathan Harris (the original Dr. Smith) on the transformation and how he pulled it off (start around 2:10)

I watched the first episode. The only thing that made it worth my time was the robot.

Didn't care for any of the characters. Not a single one of them.

The original TV characters were sort of like any sitcom family of the era that went to Mars.

I thought the writing on the new show was atrocious. Part of the problem is that even though they shifted time and did flashbacks of the family, they're thrust into turmoil before we know who they are, or have any reason to care about their dilemmas.

Didn't care for Will Robinson at all. Yeah, he's smart. Yeah, he finds his courage when he needs it. But he also whines. Billy Mumy's Will was fearless, especially at times when you'd expect a "normal" kid of that age to be terrified. As you said, the "new" Will is perhaps more believable. But for me, "believable" doesn't automatically translate to "likable."

Just didn't care for any of the "reinventions" of these characters, and did I mention that the writing was atrocious?

I was half expecting Will Robinson to put him together to give us something less threatening and something more communicative for those one liners that helped put Dr. Smith in his place.

As I said in the beginning, I liked this crew better than the movie version. The characters from the movie just were completely unlikeable. I think this t.v. show has a shot because of the special effects. For a t.v. series, it's not bad.

The writing is not atrocious, IMHO. Atrocious writing is the kind of crap we get from Aaron Sorkin - people just don’t talk like that. The characters in this series are very believable and very human. And yes, the Parker Posey version of Dr Smith is either pure evil or simply nuts. There’s nothing endearing in her character, even if she may be redeemable.

The new series is quality TV. It’s not Academy Award quality because it’s TV, not a movie. It’s not on the level of The Sopranos, but this is only the first season. Give it a chance.

My recommendation is to ignore the naysayers and find out for ones self.
