Today's birthday boys: Doug Clifford, of CCR, 1945; and bass player Steve York, 1948.
Hat tip, http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/ :
1945, Born on this day, Doug Clifford, drummer with Creedence Clearwater Revival who scored the 1969 US No.2 & UK No.1 single 'Bad Moon Rising', and the 1970 US & UK No.1 album Cosmo's Factory. The band has sold 26 million albums in the United States alone.
Doug Clifford
Douglas Ray "Cosmo" Clifford (born April 24, 1945 in Palo Alto, California) is an American drummer, best known as a founding member of Creedence Clearwater Revival. After the group dissolved in the early 1970s, Clifford released a solo album and later joined CCR bassist Stu Cook in the Don Harrison Band. In 1995, Clifford and Cook formed the band Creedence Clearwater Revisited, performing live versions of Creedence Clearwater Revival songs.
From
Bayou Country (album), my favorite CCR tune:
1948, Born on this day, Steve York who with Manfred Mann had the 1964 UK & US No.1 single 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy' and the 1968 UK No.1 & US No.10 single 'Mighty Quinn'.
Well, maybe. He doesn't show up in the list of personnel at
Manfred Mann. He was in
Manfred Mann Chapter Three. This is a link from the Wikipedia entry:
Welcome to Steve York bass!
He was in several other groups. See:
Steve York.
Outstanding bassist, he has played in many great bands. He also led a fantastic project called Camelo Pardalis, reuniting the cream of British musicians in the 70s. He was born on April 24, 1948, in London, England.
