Survivor: Most satisfying blind-side ever? Spoilers for folks in AK and HI

Disclaimer: Yeah, this post is about a reality show. They all suck and people who watch them suck. Now you don't have to be all butthurt and post and tell the rest of us lesser mortals that, okay?

Holy smokes, that was like a knock of straight single malt whiskey. If you've been watching, Survivor was down to the last 7 contestants. The women have dominated, and are now having to work on each other. Kat, a 22-year-old time share rep, has been a pretty good competitor, but she has also done some dumb 22-year-old stuff. Tonight, she won the reward challenge, and instead of picking people to go with her on the reward, she chose two of her closest allies because she wanted to party and have a good time. Dearie, when you're down to 7 players left, that's a piss-poor time to make a party decision over a strategic one.

At Tribal Council, there was a lot of talk about Kat and the choices she had made. Kat pouted and whined that she didn't want to be the center of attention, and couldn't we talk about something else? So they started talking about something else, but it soon came back around to Kat. Kat was convinced that she and her chums Chelsea, Kim and Alicia were going to join her in voting out Sabrina, and flapped her gums a little too much. Just before Jeff called for the vote, Kat offered that blindsides were "fun" and it was exciting to watch the victim gape in amazement.

Vote: 6-1, and Kat goes home, gaping in amazement. She looked at her erstwhile allies, who all suddenly found something far more interesting to look at in their laps. Kat got her torch snuffed, and didn't even make it out of the area before she started crying. Her interview over the closing credits was a whiny mix of self-pity and pissed off that she didn't outlast Sabrina or Christina. She was going to beg Jeff for a chance to come back. She was the dumbest player ever. And on and on.

Damn, it was good to watch.

...can't wait to see it now! I don't mind spoilers; in fact, knowing what happens makes it more interesting because I know beforehand who to watch.

I was afraid the blindside was going to be Kim -- she has been my pick to win from the beginning. I also like Chelsea & Sabrina. I'm with you on Kat; glad to know she was the one blindsided. Alicia would be my next choice for leaving.

Wish more people would think about it (and not just about reality tv.)

That said, this was an episode that the producers must just love to see unfold!

I don't wish to call her dumb, but she clearly did not understand the game. She said making the choice about the reward was hard but it didn't seem like it at the time! Past versions of this have found the group talking about rewarding the people they were about to send home, a token if you wish. I guess they don't do that any more.

the whole show turned when the gay guy, forgot his name, left. It is getting terribly interesting now thought.

If Colton, the gay guy from Alabama (!) hadn't succumbed to appendicitis, this season would have gone very differently. He started off whining about how he didn't fit in with the men's tribe, then sort of co-opted the power axis in the women's tribe. I don't know that he would have run the table, as the early leader types tend to overplay their power, but he definitely would have kept things stirred up. After the merge, the men were in disarray and the women were solid, and when the women got the numerical advantage, the men could pretty well start picking out their favorite seats for the jury.

It will be interesting in the next couple of shows. I think Kim and Chelsea are the strongest players, and losing Kat definitely hurts their numbers. Alicia and Sabrina seem content to follow orders as to who to vote out, as long as they're not on the chopping block. Tarzan may be playing a very subtle game, but somehow I don't think he has the mental firepower to do that. We'll see. Christina reminds me of the goat tied to the stake in Jurassic Park, and it's just a matter of time before the T. Rex shows up to make an appetizer out of her.

I loved the bit when she said blindsides were fun. I bet she doesn't think so any more. Typical for a 22 year old to think only about herself and just about her immediate needs and desires (that's not a sexist remark, it goes for the guys, too). Now, if only they'll get rid of Alicia next.

should consider it. Lots of fans of the show who won't be tempted to pass judgment on your choice of entertainment.

I agree that the booting of Kat was a thing of beauty. Those looking forward to Alicia getting her torch snuffed may not get their wish though. Which of the remaining players wouldn't want mean, nasty Alicia sitting beside them at the end?

But the person who was doing it many seasons ago quit doing it. She was wicked funny, and did a lot of analysis of each episode, sometimes almost frame by frame. I can't remember her moniker, though, but she also would make occasional reference to her boyfriend (sort of like Phyllis Diller talking about her husband "Fang&quot to bring in a guy's point of view.

I think the final six go like this:

Next to go will be Christina or Tarzan.
In fifth place will be Tarzan or Christina.
Fourth place will go to Sabrina, unless she somehow wins immunity, leaving Kim, Chelsea and Alicia for the jury. If Sabrina wins immunity, then I think Chelsea gets the boot.

The jury is going to be dominated by the men, and if they hang together in a way they never did during the game, I think Kim wins the big prize. If the men are fragmented, and don't vote in a bloc, I think Chelsea or Sabrina win. As the women are eliminated, they are going to be harboring a major grudge against Kim, who I see as the game's mastermind. If the men split their votes, the women are going to favor the not-Alicia and the not-Kim, which means Chelsea or Sabrina.

hang in there. I think her comment that she will be a bitter jury member was a smart move. Hope she can step it up as far as challenges go. Her performance last night was cringeworthy.

...even the Peter Frampton look-alike dipshit from many seasons ago that gave up his immunity idol at TC and promptly got voted out wasn't as stupid as this...Kat pissed off her ENTIRE tribe with the "Woo Hoo!!! I'm gonna get drunk!!" baloney, rather than taking other players that would have garnered her more points, and then sobs when her selfish, self-centred, stupid ass gets voted out.

My wife and I were literally laughing out loud as it slowly dawned on her that blindsides really weren't that much "fun" if YOU'RE the one being blind-sided...

What. A. Dummy.

If Kim wins immunity at the challenges from here on out, she is golden, although I agree, she is starting to get a little smug for my liking. I think her biggest threat is Chelsea and if SHE (Chelsea) gets immunity, a HUUUUUUGE play would be a blind-side of Kim...but that's a big "if" because Kim is such a physical threat.

My own personal favourite is Sabrina, who has played a subtle game, not really ruffling anyone's feathers, is well-liked by most everyone else and seems to be a genuinely nice human being. That means she is guaranteed NOT to make it to the final TC because she represents a huge threat to both Kim and Chelsea. Bummer.

Christina is hot, hot, hot, but then I have a weakness for ladies of her persuasion (my hot wife is a Filipina), but as a contestant she is a non-entity. She'll either wind up at the final TC because a stronger player wants her there, or she'll be voted out.

Tarzan is a goofy older dude, who, when he is lucid makes has some solid strategic ideas, but I don't think he'll make it to the end.

Alicia is a mean-spirited, nasty, back-stabbing, self-important, arrogant and throughly unpleasant person. So she's guaranteed to get to the final TC because no-one will vote for her. (Plus, I hope she loses her day-job for some of the things she has said).

So, as I see it, it will come down to Kim/Chelsea at final TC, with a very close vote, UNLESS Chelsea can blind-side Kim in which case Chelsea wins it all.

Once they got rid of Colton, who was the gay-male version of Alicia, this season really picked up.

One thing is for sure, things are about to get very interesting...
