The spectacular waves of Lake Erie

Native Americans who lived along its southern shore called the lake "Erige" which means “cat” because of its unpredictable and sometimes violently dangerous nature. Lake Erie’s nasty storms have claimed no less than 1,400 ships and as high as 8,000 according to one estimate. Some say, Lake Erie has more "wrecks per square mile" than any other freshwater location on earth.

I live in the desert, the sea both fascinates and terrifies me. Several years ago I was in Los Angeles area after some big storm and my sister and I went to a restaurant overlooking the sea. The waves were gigantic, monstrous huge and the noise of deafening, just watching from the safe vantage point of the parking lot was scary. Lunch was not a relaxing experience.

We occasionally take out of towners to dinner there for the view. It’s nice on the outdoor deck till someone inevitably get’s the seagulls going

Chrysler CEO, Lee Iacocca.

Great food and atmosphere back then. (except for sawdust and peanut shells covering the floor).

Its not the unusual tourist restaurant, more of a local place with a mixed menu of surf and turf. I like the oysters, always a treat.

My husband fishes Lake Erie, you absolutely have to check the Marine forecast before you go out, AND have a radio because it's notorious for kicking up on a moment's notice. I've been on his boat when there were 2-4 ft. waves and that was scary enough!

I live by Lake Erie and the winds that come off the lake are brutal at times but I still love where I live.

Doesn't the 4th photo from the top look as if it has a 💀 skull? I thought at first the skull was photoshopped in for effect but then I saw the next frame.

Those are the most dramatic, chilling, angry-looking waves I have ever seen.

Fantastic photography! Thanks for posting, packman.
