Shopping for a new laptop

My Windows 7 Dell Latitude finally gave up the ghost.

So I've only had 2 Dell Latitudes and a cheap Toshiba laptop that was a POS. Any brands you recommend? Should I go with a solid state drive or stick to tradtional SATA hard drives. I only install MS Office and QuickBooks. No games or other nonsense.

I have not regretted going SSD. So, if you can afford it, do it. nt Ferrets are Cool Jun 2018 #5
Yeah, I like the idea that the SSD doesn't generate a lot of heat or noise TexasBushwhacker Jun 2018 #6

So I am on a limited budget... I went to Walmart and bought a $540 HP Pavilion 15-cd0xx with AMD A12 12 compute cores (4C + 8G) at 2.7GHz, 12 GB memory, and a 1TB hard drive.

It's been a good laptop so far, although I usually use a wireless keyboard and mouse with it for an additional $75... it also has a touch screen for tablet mode but I don't really use that.

For $550 it has been a good investment.

edited to add: I have bought dozen of refurbished Dells from their site over the last 15 years, for me and my fellow employees. I have never regretted that either.

If I need more space I can always use an external HD.

As much of a shock it is, I would recommend an Hewlett-Packard. There are things I do not like about it (external HD for one) but I bought this one I am on now in 2014 and it is still going strong. No problems.

I still have an old ThinkPad with XP on it.

I also have an ACER desktop. I like ACER a lot. You might check them out as well.

The last desktop I bought was also an ACER and it never died on me, it just became outdated and I had to replace it.

It might be cheaper for an ACER laptop, not sure.

I too had a Toshiba (piece of junk) and also a Fujitsu (ditto). Alas, I ended up with this HP Elite Book with Windows 7 on it.

Hope this helps!

replaced a 9-year-old Sony VAIO.

I took a chance and purchased it online, sight unseen, from Best Buy, and couldn't be happier. Especially love the back-lit keys.
