I dont usually do this but I really liked it. The name is Cargo and its an original Netflix movie.
Its a very different kind of zombie movie which might turn some of you off, but the zombie part is very secondary and is there to mostly set up the story. It stars Martin Freeman and takes place on the outback in Australia. The plot is that he has his baby who he has to save and has to find people who an take care of it because he gets infected. Along the way he finds an aboriginal girl who he saves. Thats all Ill say about what happens in the movie plot.
What I think is worth watching about it is that it is a compelling story of great love and devotion with an iron determination to save his baby no matter the cost. Martin Freeman has turned out to be an incredibly gifted actor who is completely convincing in this role. And the character is a complex figure that draws you in as he unfolds. Its a simple story told on a way that touches you. It has left me thinking about it for over a week which is really something. And the more I thought about it the more I wanted to recommend it.
If you watch it I hope you like it the way I did. The funny thing is I almost didnt watch it because it was a zombie movie. Dont get me wrong, I like good zombie movies, but I dont necessarily go looking for them.

(16,383 posts)I keep looking at it but haven't watched it yet. Zombie stories are a guilty pleasure. I even like bad ones.

(33,643 posts)I do not question Freeman's talents for one second, seen him in too many things. The fact that he totally holds his own with BC in Sherlock was proof enough alone, but he's done a lot other very good turns over the years.
If I get Netflix again, it's on my list for sure!

Babylon Berlin, that's my rec. Holy cow was it good.
Lost in Space, too.

(53,410 posts)I agree with you about Lost in Space. It satisfied my love of the sci fi genre which isnt all that easy. I cut my teeth in science fiction with the greats starting when I was 17 in high school with Robert Heinlein, Arthur C Clark, Theodore Sturgeon, Ursula Le Guin, Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert and the rest of the greats.
CGI special effects is a sci fi fans dream come true! Lost in Space and so many other sci fi movies are truly satisfying with the help of CGI and other cinematic innovations.

(7,395 posts)I'd have to add Harry Harrison and Harlan Ellison, but Heinlein -- 'Time Enough For Love' destroyed my thirteen year old brain. Absolutely shaped me.
I thought the Lost In Space reboot was solid writing. Well done. Great cast. They could have blown it, but they didn't.
I want a Time Tunnel reboot. Maybe Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea.
Someday somebody will make The Stainless Steel Rat and start a trillion-dollar franchise that goes on forever.

(53,410 posts)I also like the movies made from video games which I never played. My son did both and I have his collection with me. He died a few years ago, and though Ive moved a few times his 20+ year collection moves with me, still in their plastic and boxes.
I agree that some early science fiction programs would be great to update and bring back. Theres a good chance they will I think

(7,395 posts)Losing a child is my greatest fear. To this day.
Whenever the specter of it rises in my mind, though, I consider the quality of the time I've spent with them, and how grateful I am just to have had them in my life.
Quality over quantity. Life is a spring flower, a spark in the darkness.

(3,266 posts)powerful! Thanx for recommending, I would never have given it a chance, thinking oh, its a zombie movie. Its much more than that. Quite enjoyed it!

(53,410 posts)It is a powerful ending, and worth watching! Im happy I recommended it. Cargo should be watched by more people and the only way for that to happen is for it to be recommended by us. Its a wonderful find!

(23,691 posts)Definitely agree with you on this point.
And ending was very satisfying.
But dragged at points, so fast forwarded through, in total about 30 minutes of the movie.
Thanks for the recommendation.

(53,410 posts)I didnt find it dragged at all. I think the time was put to good us as an opportunity to add depth to Martin Freemans character.
But if the movie is still good without those parts, then it truly succeeds on many levels.
