is to imply that the two of them did their genealogy and discovered they are distant cousins with a common ancestor back several generations.

This is not an uncommon occurrence.

7. Just about everyone in the US who had British ancestors here before 1776 is related

A lot of the British settlers who originally came to the colonies were already cousins.

Even though we grew up in different states, my wife and I discovered we were 9th cousins or so, with a common ancestor in Salem, MA, around the time of the witch trials (so before 1776).

We're also both related to King Edward III (as is almost everyone who had European ancestors here in the 1700's).

Almost everyone with ancestors in Eurasia is related to Charlemagne, Genghis Khan and/or the Prophet Muhammed.

Great Grandmother, Joanna Blessing married to William Towne was accused of witchcraft, but never convicted. Three of their children, Rebecca, Mary and Sarah were convicted of being witches. Rebecca and Mary were hanged; Sarah survived. The movie, "Three Sovereigns for Sarah", tells about their ordeal. Also the Arthur Miller play, "The Crucible was based on their trial.

William and Joanna came to Salem from Great Yarmouth England in 1635.

Who know, we may be related.

My wife and I are related on the Preston line a generation before the trials. She from Rebecca Nurse (Towne) and Thomas Preston, and myself from his brother Samuel, so we connect through Roger, their father.

Did you know that Joanna Blessing is considered the 'real Mother Goose'? I was kind of blown away when I realized that Mother Goose's children were executed as witches.

I wish I knew more about mine. I'm English on my mother's side and have always wondered what her family history was.

16. Just start by googling your mothers name or the oldest ancestor you know about.

Never know what might turn up.

I was pretty shocked to learn my heritage went all the way back to really the founding of America. I started doing genealogy research before the internet was really a thing, looking at microfilm at the Massachusetts Archives in Boston looking up census, birth, death and immigration records. Was pretty slow going. But with the advent of the internet the research is so much easier.

13. Does ancestry.com also let you do family trees for your past lives?

Or do they only let you do this one?

Like, if I knew who I was in a previous incarnation, can I look up my descendants now?
