All the sounds, especially conversations!
I no longer have to say, "What?"
Just glorious!

(46,327 posts)Bit of a pain, having to take them out when I go to bed or take a shower, but I don't mind.
They were really expensive though, Medical Assistance pick up the tab, $3500 APIECE! (!)
Do you use hearing aids? Just curious.

(149,620 posts)Whew.
No, I don't, not yet. I do have issues in my left ear but I'm not sure hearing aids would help. I have a lot of wax in that one and I wonder how a hearing aid would work with that.
So, I lurch forward!

(16,254 posts)when I flew to Florida. My hearing was just as clear as it could be. In fact, almost too loud. Why can't I have the same on the ground? I can pop my ears and get clear hearing for a while, but then it is diminished.
At that price, I don't know if I'd live long enough to get my money's worth.

(8,171 posts)to be sold OTC. I am not sure where it stands with FDA approval but this should bring the cost down substantially. There are already devices on the market but they are not allowed to use the term "hearing aid" and are not FDA approved.
Here's an article from Consumer Reports from 2017.
https://www.consumerreports.org/hearing-aids/over-the-counter-hearing-aids-to-become-available/
"The legislation, introduced by Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, calls for the creation of an entirely new category of hearing aids. These hearing helpers will be sold OTC but will be legally considered hearing aids, and aimed at those with mild to moderate hearing loss.
Like today's PSAPs, they will be cheaper and easier to obtain than prescription aidsbut like prescription hearing aids, will be more tightly regulated by the government. "

(16,254 posts)I probably need to get a check-up again. I had one several years ago, but I didn't feel secure with it.
My daughter is the one who complains about it the most, but she contributes to the problem. When she talks to me, she is usually walking away from me. My problem with hearing aids or anything to do with my ears is that my ears do not allow anything inserted into them. They burn. When I had a secretarial service, I could not transcribe because of that. I don't even want to think of them.

(19,956 posts)Only kidding ! Congratulations, that's fantastic 👍
My aunt has been through a number of hearing aids but won't wear them, which is so frustrating that there is help for her, but vanity gets in the way.
