American Pharoah, who I saw last month at Coolmore makes private bucks. Probably 20 thousand plus per baby who stands and feeds.

They squeeze the humans in between his romance time.

Wonder if Justify retires now? Stressful, if they don't.

but more likely double that. They'll have the price high from racing retirement until his first couple of crops. If they do well at the sales and on the track, it gets kept high, perhaps even goes higher (though it's not the insane fees of the 80's...Northern Dancer was 1 million, live foal not guaranteed, Seattle Slew 750k LFG. Right now Galileo, based out of Coolmore in Ireland, would be getting those kinds of fees). If they don't do well, price goes down.

Lots of good racehorses do not transmit their talent into their offspring. Spectacular Bid, Alysheba, Silver Charm and Fusaichi Pegasus come to mind.

... he and Alydar were in the same stable after '78. Seems Slew was kind of shy -- didn't like the little girlies at all, apparently. Often, a mare would be brought in and he'd just pass on the whole deal. While Alydar, who had the stall next to him, would be all but kicking the thing down, saying "Lemme at her." In Horse, of course.
