(12,213 posts)He may have been "AN ATHLETE," in his younger days (I don't know) but this is his choice now...
"Other than golf, he considers exercise misguided, arguing that a person, like a battery, is born with a finite amount of energy," writes Evan Osnos.
That's far from the first time we've heard that Trump and exercise aren't friends. This, from a February 6 piece in Axios: "The only workout Trump gets is an occasional round of golf. Even then, he mostly travels by cart. On the campaign trail he viewed his rallies as his form of exercise."

(907 posts)I simply meant that he participated in a school sport when he was a teenager -- which fact in and of itself is morally neutral. Like I said, I've read that he also was a bully -- a fact that should surprise no one today.

(907 posts)So, you might be interested to know that Trump wants others to do what he's unwilling to do himself. Specifically, he wants to force mandatory P.E. on all school students without any regard to the problems that have historically been associated with traditional P.E. such as bullying and the marginalization of nonathletic students, especially boys. Regarding the practice of last chosen, most of these students don't even want to be there. They would rather be somewhere else, far away. They don't have freedom of choice.
I believe exercise is important. It can literally save lives. For years I've worked with a personal trainer on a bodybuilding program. So, I don't think I'm a slacker.
I got no exercise at all in the "sports only" mandatory PE I was forced to take as a boy in the 1960s. I dreaded the period when I had PE because I feared being bullied. I experienced "last chosen" myself. It was humiliating. The coaches viewed nonathletic boys with indifference or contempt.
In contrast, the personal trainers I've worked with have encouraged me instead of belittling me. Several of them said I was their favorite client. I get more exercise in a single workout session than I ever did in all the years I was forced to take PE.
Unfortunately, some people don't know the difference between a sport and a fitness program. Even Arnold Schwarzeneggar of all people has pointed this out. There are excellent school fitness programs such as PE4Life, but the sports crown doesn't appear to be supportive of them.
You seem to think I was complimenting Trump because he was a high-school athlete. That's very strange.

(5,299 posts)and there was a time when there were honorable Republicans in Congress (that we just had an honest disagreement with on how to best run the country). Times change.

(907 posts)But it really is a smear job and an act of mockery of nonathletic kids. Likening them to Donald Trump and the latest Kim is a great insult. Although I'm sure this wasn't deliberate, the meme also shows why traditional, exclusively sports centered mandatory P.E. is a disgraceful arrangement that definitely does NOT promote exercise and physical fitness for those students who are the most in need in this regard.
