I woke up a few nights ago because there was something in my bedroom. I finally tracked it down. It was a toad
Let me say first that there is nothing in my bedroom that would interest the average toad. Also there is nothing on the way through my house to my bedroom that should interest a toad. To put it briefly, this toad was simply lost
I eventually trapped it and exiled it to my back deck. I think my own reaction, had I somehow escaped from the living space of an alien giant, would have been to skee-daddle for my little life. Toads apparently do not think the way I think they should think, however, because this toad just sat on my back deck, contemplating the meaning of life or the lights of the fireflies or whatever it is that toads contemplate when they feel contemplative
I waited a while, until overcome by curiosity, I went back outside to check on the status of the toad. The toad was still there, where last seen. However, it now took a hop, away from the door, and wanting to encourage it in this direction: hop, step, hop, step, until finally the toad, on the edge of the deck, leapt into the pile of leaves three feet below
So today, I found a toad in my kitchen. In fairness to the toad, I note that it did not seem to be interested in exploring the house: it seemed to be trying to exit, though the method it had chosen indicated some confusion, because it kept jumping into the corner beside the door. With some gentle terrorizing by me, it finally found its way out
You'd think word would get around the toad community not to come into my house. Don't they watch the Evening Toad Report or whatever it's called?

(23,353 posts)Do you leave your doors open or your windows w/o screens? I have plenty of toads and lizards in my back yard. Never had a toad in my house, and the only lizards are the one my cat catches and proudly deposits at my feet.
