John is one of my favorites...such talent, I got to see him at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS
a couple of times years ago...also Tut Taylor and Norman and Nancy Blake...all greats.

Outdoor festival in Norman, OK. Vassar was showing him some tunes between acts. John was riveted on what he was seeing and echoing it back. Went on for several minutes and don't think I've seen anyone be more concentrated.

John was a truly gentle soul and very soft spoken. Jimmy Buffett and his guitar player (just the 2 guys, pre Coral Reefers) were on the same bill and gave John his address and the name of his housekeeper in Key West in case he was ever in town. Oh yeah, it was over Labor Day weekend.

I saw Norman Blake open a show for Bill Monroe in Boulder. Went back stage after the show and
met Bill and Kenny Baker. Norman was long gone. Saw John Hartford in Indianapolis with Hot Rize when they were just getting started.
