I've been nearsighted since 3rd grade, & that turned into presbyopia in my 40s. So I've worn glasses or contacts most of my life. Well, my sister, who still has big 1980s hair & wears garish blue eyeliner, insists that transition lenses are ugly and geeky, & that I need to get rid of them. I disagree. I live in Georgia, a warm & sunny state, & I refuse to pay for prescription sunglasses when I can make it much easier on myself. IDGAF what the haters think, I'll keep them!

(6,797 posts)I've worn glasses since I was 12. Who wants to have prescription sunglasses and have to keep changing them? It's bad enough to just wear glasses.

(5,518 posts)I don't even understand this issue.
Can't you put transitioning lenses into any frame you want? So what does the lens have to do with the style?

(9,656 posts)and transition-type lenses since 1976. I have no complaints whatsoever and have no plans to change. I once had a pair of prescription sunglasses but in my opinion, they were a PITA. I've heard that some people don't like the delay from going outside to inside, but that has never been a problem for me. A few years ago, I moved to tri-focals and the optician said they could no longer provide the darkest lenses for that script, so I'm now using either a 2 out of 3 or a 2 or 3 out of 4 (don't remember) tint. They work fine for me.
Find the frames you like and have the transition lenses you want fitted to them. Give your sister a hug, buy her some ice cream and a copy of Queen's Greatest Hits. Then ignore your sisters comments.

(20,135 posts)They're never fully clear and they don't get as dark as I would like. I buy my glasses online at zennioptical.com .

(2,682 posts)Quite some time ago, I had the variable lenses. It was some kind of family occasion where someone took my picture. I was horrified to see that the lenses were never clear and the tint in them make my eyes look really old -- and that was before I actually BECAME really old. I now have two sets of glasses. One clear and the other dark sunglasses. In fact, style-wise, they are very different from each other and I like wearing either one, depending on the circumstances. I'll never go back to the other lenses.
