(35,325 posts)ago and the only place I ever seen them is once in a great while in Ohio Amish country. The ones I like are light green and very sweet.
The ones I like are made with pickling lime not the fruit lime.

(938 posts)Small red peppers in the jar provide just enough kick to grab your attention without distracting from the satisfying crunch. Great on sandwiches or as a snack. But it has to be this brand:

(205,233 posts)There was a pair of tongs on top of the barrel and waxed paper bags on the side for your chosen pickle. My brother and I thought this was great fun, we always loved it when my mother let us get pickles to take home. I think they were a quarter.

(970 posts)Grandma's recipe.
Nobody's mentioned them. Maybe it's just one of those weird, freaky Midwestern things.
Or sweet pickles.
Pickled beets?
Maybe it's just what I remember from my childhood.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then there was the Halloween specialty I ran across somewhere:
Beet pickled eggs.
Take a gallon jar of pickled egg, a gallon jar of pickled beets, and an empty gallon jar.
Pull about 6 eggs out of the jar and set aside. Pour the brine from the eggs into the empty jar.
Pour the brine from the beets into the jar with the eggs, transfer enough beets to fill up the jar, close, and transfer to refrigerator.
Pour the egg brine into the jar with the beets, and add eggs removed from the jar, (if they haven't been eaten) seal that jar and refrigerate.
Refrigerate for approximately 6 to 8 months.
On Halloween, pull eggs from refrigerator, slice in half lengthwise, and place on plate.
The whites should be violet, and the yolks should be a horrific greenish purple color.
Ask if anyone wants some pickled alien eyes.
Prepare for the freak-out.
Although there just might be a few "Coooool"s. Those are the people you want to hang out with.
