Description: Size in profile is about the size of a quarter. It has an orange body and wings are jet black, except for a white or pale yellow line along the bottom edge.
I have never seen one before yesterday. The side yard had about a dozen flying around. I will try to take a photo but they're skittish.

(46,684 posts)I have only seen them in flight, so I don't know if their wings lie flat on their back that way. When they fly, they flutter like butterflies.

Also seen on milkweed...(Maybe it's a pollinator of milkweed)
