My mother, 85, admitted to me that she voted for Trump.
Shes an evangelical and says hes fulfilling the profficy in revelations. Shes very happy with him.
I asked her if she knows who Scott Pruit is. Nope.
I asked her if she knows who Betsy Davos is. Nope.
At that point she said she didnt want to talk about it and covered her ears, and yelled lalalala to block my voice out.
She has no knowledge of the Russian investigation, and thinks the babies being separated are fine.
She insists that Obama was a Muslim who wanted to turn our country socialist.
Im so bothered by this.
My childhood with her wasnt a happy one. It wasnt until I became a mother that we started to get along. I never felt loved, as a kid, I only felt the destain and her regret of having me. So now Im back to feeling that feeling of disappointment.

(17,862 posts)My mom, n___r this, n___r that. You can't pick your parents. My dad is dead, but I always perceived he was more open (I grew up Republican), but my dad was changing after the decision to go into Iraq (that is what pushed me over). He died ten years ago.
My half-brother was once more liberal than me, but he has joined the Trump bandwagon.
My cousin who is almost like a sister thinks I am outside my Christian faith by being anti-Trump.

(17,235 posts)you are who you are today. Don't let this eat away at you as your mother is a hopeless ignorant case and probably always will be. My mother was the same; brainwashed and hopeless.

(22,756 posts)she most likely would have voted for DT... your mother and mine could be the same person... my take on it??? don't be sad. You are who you are and seemingly an ok person... I made peace with who my mother was years ago, well before she passed, and knew that I was no longer under her care, I didn't have to depend on her, be like her, and that my happiness and well being did not come from my relationship with her...
please don't lapse into those old emotions... they are not healthy and won't help you or your mother

(9,265 posts)One cousin, who I used to be pretty close to. She's a retired teacher enjoying a very comfortable retirement after years of having a pretty well-paid job (we're in PA) and great benefits ***thanks to the union***.
Don't think it's the abortion issue, she's a devout Methodist and that's not their "thing" plus I never even heard her talk about the issue.
I think she bought into the anti-immigrant especially anti-Muslim stuff after 9/11. And watches Faux News.
Her party wants nothing more than to make teachers $10/hour with no benefits or pension, yet she supports them.
We exchange Christmas cards. Her brother doesn't speak to her at all.

(2,166 posts)In a union, supports unions, but hates Dems. I pointed this out on his facebook, as did another of his friend, but it fell on deaf ears. I think they grab on something to hate and then just stick with it.

(2,166 posts)It was like every 5 years. I thought I would never graduate high school. Eventually, I realized its bull shit and have grown angry at these people telling children this.
