I was at the show where they recorded one side of Frampton Comes Alive at Winterland in San Francisco. The side included Do You Feel Like We Do? There's no way I would have thought that I'd still be hearing that on the radio 40+ years later.
Frampton was known, but not really at the peak of his popularity yet. The show didn't even sell out. No one knew they were recording a live album. We sat in the upper level behind the band. Excellent show. I had been a huge Humble Pie fan and was a Frampton fan because of that.

(1,549 posts)In Philly 1974.It was recorded over two nights.was surprised to hear after Bowies death he was so unhappy with the whole thing that he never actually listened to the album(at one point he got stuck on a crane above the audience and had to climb down,we all thought it was part of the show!) (47,552 posts)He had four laundry baskets full of loose cassette tapes of dead shows.
In fact, that's how I learned how to spot Deadheads.
You keep your tapes neatly in a tape case? Rocker.
You keep your tapes loose in a basket? Deadhead.

Fuckin' hippie science!

(16,063 posts)That would put you right in front of the sound board.

Thanks for the info.

(12,132 posts)on at least one of their tours. I didn't have any decent equipment else I might have given it a go. Some of the best Zep bootlegs are the result of someone slipping the sound guy a couple bills and getting to patch into the board.
I say "best" but I really should say "cleanest". It was often the case that a well-placed, quality mic in the middle of the crowd captured more of the fuller sound and ambiance than the sterile signal coming from the soundboard.

(47,552 posts)I was at three of the four shows at Long Beach Arena for Iron Maiden's Powerslave tour. That's where they recorded most of Live After Death. ("Scream for me, Long Beach!!"
And and I was at The Forum in Inglewood last year for the upcoming Slayer live album. I'm not sure this is right, but I think it was the last show of the tour, just before they announced their next tour would be their farewell tour.

(12,132 posts)I hope someone recorded it. They are finishing up the US and then going to Europe for the very last shows (well, assuming they don't KISS it up lol).
I took my granddaughter and her boyfriend for their first metal show. We had a blast!

Aristus
(66,328 posts)It was recorded and preserved on CD.
I added it to my collection of now four complete Ring cycles.
One side of the Pure Prairie League live album. Recorded at Six Flags Over Mid-America. I had to look up the date, it was 1977.
I had the Frampton Comes Alive album (well, didn't everybody?) and it got a LOT of play. I saw him in concert in St. Louis in about 1978 or 1979. I guess I could look that up, too but I am feeling a bit old now. Seems like just a few years ago I saw those concerts!

The Los Angeles shows were just part of the final vinyl album.
Attention, attention...by entering these premises you are allowing your likeness to be used in a major motion picture...

p.s. We, also, bought the vinyl album when it was released.

(7,517 posts)At the Forum in LA in 1970. The two-disc album was recorded at three locations live during several shows. I used to know which songs were recorded at our concert but couldn't tell ya now.

(663 posts)They told the audience they were recording the concert for a live album. We decided we were gonna be on that album and yelled "Slow Ride" at every quiet moment. Yeah, that's us.
