These are my Jet Stars. Also pulled some garlic, today, and I should be picking green peppers and cucumbers, really soon.

How do I stop the worms at this point when everything is going so good? Seems Ive grown them before and right as they blush out...worm holes.

(31,657 posts)I just picked my first two cukes and also my first Blue Lake green beans of the season.
I enjoyed a salad of leaf lettuce and cukes and some garlicky green beans for dinner, yay!
I've got 18 tomato plants full of fruits, still green, though.

(4,191 posts)We ate one with our burgers on July 4 and one at dinner tonight. Last years crop was very watery but these seemed better. Tasted great. We had 2 cucumbers also.
So glad yours are starting to ripen, one of the best parts of summer. They look like theyll be beauties.

(1,328 posts)my family made me 4 raised gardens out of blue barrels.
We have poor soil so used compost which we make and the plants are amazing. I haven't had a garden like this since we lived in Milwaukee in the 1970's.
I have cukes coming, tomatoes are coming great and peppers look very good too.
Now if I can get some of the sun flowers that I planted in the ground to grow I'll be happy. Planted 2 packs of seeds, they started coming and then they were gone. Not sure if it's our bunny or birds but they're eating well.

(26,173 posts)And my sun flowers are doing well. Mine are all planted by the birds, via the bird feeders.

(26,173 posts)Some years my front garden is thick with sunflowers. I've had some that stood well over 8' high. This year there are fewer and, so far, just one really tall one.
One year I had massive flower so I decided to protect it from the squirrels. I went in to get a paper sack to pull over the bloom, came back out, and it was GONE! That little bastard squirrel was just waiting for me to turn my back!

(63,221 posts)My father always had a big garden growing up. It was his little hobby but we loved everything that was harvested. If you haven't had garden grown vegetables, you don't know how good vegetables can be. I can see how people who have only had commercially grown, supermarket veggies aren't really fond of them at all, but home grown are delicious! Enjoy!
