Alex Trebek sued by woman over dog

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/alex-trebek-sued-by-woman-over-dog/ar-AAA2u2l?ocid=ientp

"Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek is being sued by a woman who claims a dog -- purported to be his -- caused her to fall hard into the road into oncoming traffic.

The woman, Hanna Ketai, claims she was walking her own dog down the street in Los Angeles earlier this month when a "large black dog" came running out from Alex's property, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The dog, she said, tried to attack her, which caused her to scream and turn away. During the episode, she said she fell on her hands and knees into the street.

While down on the road, she said an SUV was driving in her direction, but a good samaritan helped her up and back to safety. However, she said she has suffered physical, mental and emotional pain, worry and anxiety because of the incident.

She also claims this has affected her work abilities, TMZ says, citing the court documents.

I wonder if the judge will make him put his testimony in the form of a question.

Trebek lives in a house without a gated fence? Seems unlikely, unless it's a gated community. Saguaro Jul 2018 #18

Why not just brush yourself off and have a laugh? Call it life? Make a friend? Pain and suffering my ass.

The scope of suffering is directly proportional to the means or insurance of those you can point toward.

Most leash laws have exceptions. I take my dog in my front yard without a leash every day and there’s nothing illegal about it because the dog never leaves my property. Leash laws also typically only apply to willful violations. If a dog escapes the owner usually isn’t liable provided they took reasonable precautions to prevent it. Most any dog can escape if they want to bad enough, and many dogs have to be trained not to bolt through an open door.

You obviously don’t watch those “court TV” shows.

If your dog is on a leash and gets away from you,
you are responsible. You must be in control.

And as for as your dog being loose in your front yard with you,
your yard would need be fenced in if the dog is loose.

Seriously.

My local law allows for exceptions on my own property, so does LA’s.

10.32.010 Dogs--Running at large prohibited--Exceptions.

No person owning or having charge, care, custody or control of any dog shall cause, permit or allow the same to be or to run at large upon any highway, street, lane, alley, court or other public place, or upon any private property or premises other than those of the person owning or having charge, care, custody or control of such dog, in the unincorporated area of the county of Los Angeles, unless such dog be restrained by a substantial chain or leash not exceeding six feet in length and is in the charge, care, custody or control of a competent person.

Obey the Leash Law (LAMC 53.06)

"Dogs must be on leash unless they are in your fenced yard or at a dog park that allows off leash exercise."

http://www.laanimalservices.com/important-pet-laws/

So, I assume your yard is fenced.

And as for you not being responsible if you have your dog on a leash and he gets away from you,
I'm pretty sure that won't be accepted.

There’s lots of unincorporated areas of LA, particularly where rich people live. The cited law also says “permit or allow” which doesn’t apply if the animal escaped.

At any rate I don’t live within the city of LA and that most certainly isn’t what my law says, which is nearly identical to the one I cited in the previous post. My local law also applies to cats which is routinely ignored by most cat owners. The point being leash laws vary significantly from one place to another.

They run up to our dogs and the incredibly stupid people ALWAYS say the same incredibly stupid thing
"It's ok, he's friendly."
Yes, but our dogs are not - get a hold of your fucking dog
Dogs on leash are threatened by dogs off leash
This isn't the dog park(where leashed dogs are not allowed).
Dogs are unpredictable - even trained ones

Just because a dog is on a leash, doesn’t mean they are under control either. I once had a $400 vet bill because a leashed dog got away from it’s owner and attacked mine which was on a leash and in control.

And yes my dog is predictable and isn’t friendly with anything or anyone she doesn’t know well. Not only is she trained to stay within a foot of me, she never runs up to other dogs or people and instead clings to me even closer when she sees one. She even does so with squirrels. The free roaming neighborhood cats are a bigger threat.
