If there are TV cameras, then they aren't really stranded on a deserted island in this new show

https://abc.go.com/shows/castaways

Castaways is a revolutionary series testing the human need for companionship under extreme circumstances as each individual learns there are other castaways out there but are unaware of how many, their locations or when they will be rescued. This visually stunning, new reality series follows 12 diverse individuals as they're dropped alone throughout various islets in Indonesia and challenged to survive among washed-up luggage, scattered resources and abandoned structures.

Can't viewers figure out that if there are cameras capturing it, then the camera techs are coming and going and so they're not stranded at all????

Are people really this pathetic?

So technically, they are not ship wrecked or castaways. Just playing a role. I am sure there is an emergency “call button” to summon help or rescue, as needed. Suppose the person gets suddenly sick or has what appears to be appendicitis or heart attack?? Are they just gonna leave the sucker there to fend for him or herself? Think about the ethics of THAT.

Reminds me of the show Trading Spaces that was supposedly about two couples, two designers, two carpenters. And two days. Turned out that it was a whole team of people working feverishly to get the job done. Sort of took the mystery of how on earth they (amateur home owners) pulled off some of the makeovers in such a short amount of time. It was the viewers who got duped into thinking it was exactly as shown. But any of us who ever did any kind of DIY project around the house knew it was BS.

One of the contestants was overcome by smoke from their campfire and fell over unconscious into the fire. He got some pretty bad burns before anyone noticed and hauled him out. He was airlifted out to get medical attention.

So, yeah, there are emergency plans in place. Those "reality" shows are heavily scripted, edited to slant the outcome, and not reality at all.

It is wonderful that networks like Netflix, Hulu, et al, have been producing excellent shows that have professional writers writing good shows with good actors in them. I prefer to watch good dramas and comedies that I know are fiction than fiction passed off as reality.

....after watching "I Love Lucy" reruns, lamented, "why can't they make new Lucy shows?" Ah...maybe because the entire cast is DEAD! NOT the brightest bulb in the chandelier!
