I marathon watched Season Six.
Not a spoiler but the karaoke scene at the bar with Joe Caputo was magical. He is one of my favorite characters,

(33,643 posts)Is this year's good as good as the others (my least favorite season I think was the year of the 'riot' ... they drug it on way too long w/that storyline IMHO).

(99,710 posts)I liked Season Six and look forward to Season Seven.
I'm kind of sad I marathon watched it because now it's over. I am a huge Joe Caputo fan. He's everyman with a heart. Almost every other male character is a misogynist and a moron.

That was a good scene for sure. But that other scene in the last episode was even more touching. (Not wanting to spoil it for others, you should know which one...)

(3,266 posts)bored me to tears. The sisters' story line was just stupid. I DID love the karaoke scene! But the only thing that moved me at all was Tasty's verdict, but not that much because it's pretty clear they're going to get that reversed next season when they reveal the real shooter. All in all this is the first season I was just kinda "meh". There's no topping the emotion of Poussey's death, and that entire season.

(19,060 posts)This show took a political turn in season 5 with the prison being bought by a for profit corporation. The greatest injustices facing Americans are the injustices in the penal system.
The brutality is realistic, the stories are embellished to make good TV, but the actual treatment is actually understated. Prisoners in this country are treated so inhumanely it's a blight on our country. What they started portraying better in season 6 is the total indifference the guards have to prisoners. Everything about the system degrades them so the guards don't even view them as human beings. And something that's hard to capture and is the worst thing about prison to get used to is the not knowing and not being in control. When they shut that door behind you, you don't know when they're going to open it again, you don't know when you'll get fed, you don't know when you'll next get to talk to someone. That's the stuff that is most shocking. They might pull you out of your cell and throw you into a bus and start driving and you are not told where you are going or why.
OITNB does a great job of showing that everyone has a story. Everyone who ends up in jail or prison was loved and loved, they alkl have a story to tell.
Another thing they get wrong is the fact that 60% of all US inmates are illiterate. They show 1 or 2 women who can't read, but it's actually the majority of them that can't read.
