gritchfest, aka Hotmail Hell

crap...crap….CRAP!
Went to check my email this afternoon, my hotmail address that I’ve had forever, the one I use to stay in touch with family AND to pay bills. All that info is kept in folders there.

Anyhow, when I logged in a little Microsoft sign came up asking me to confirm my identity. Say what? So, I clicked on their link, answered their questions, filled out their form...then they ask for at least one email addy that I’ve sent to and the precise wording in that subject line — and how the hell am I supposed to do that when I can’t even open my damn mailbox?? So I did my best, they asked for an alternate email where they can reach me, and they sent me a note saying that my answers were inadequate to confirm my identity!

I tried again. Same questions, fuller answers (like my full name rather than the nickname I’ve always used online), same security question/answer, yada yada — got the same response. Well phooey.

Went online, found a Microsoft “support” number, called it. Once I got through their terribly inadequate phone triage, a young man picked up. We spent a good fifteen minutes repeating ourselves because I couldn’t understand him and he couldn’t understand me. He finally gave me an online address to fix the problem, gave me a case #, and bye bye. Went to that addy, and it was the same damned useless form! I told myself that he must have pushed a button somewhere to make the thing work; he hadn’t, and it didn’t. In fact, this time it came back with a very terse “You’ve tried too many times! Go away! Don’t come back for at least 24 hours!”

Half a bottle of tums later, I’m reconciled to waiting until tomorrow to try again. For all the intellectual brilliance that went into the creation of Microsoft and it’s bazillion children, their “support” structure really does suck pond scum.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr……………..

that they should never leave somebody on hold longer for than it takes to install Linux. They were not amused.
