I stumbled across the band The Brian Jonestown Massacre after hearing one of their songs in their band.
I had no idea this band even existed before. My only exposure to their music was the fact that the instrumental to one of their songs, "Straight Up and Down", was used as the theme song to the HBO show Boardwalk Empire. But I never knew they were the ones behind it.
They are absolutely phenomenal. And they've been putting out music since the early 90s. Why is this the first I've ever heard of them?

(837 posts)Bardo Pond. Hard to describe but really worth a listen. Heavy, psychedelic guitars, female vocals and flute! Looked them up and now I want all their stuff. I love discovering new music.
If you dig Brian Jonestown Massacre, Check out The Black Angels! I think youll like them.

(23,340 posts)discover that the song isn't new and the band has been putting out music for 20 years.
My big discovery last year was Rhiannon Giddens, former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
Here she is performing with Marcus Mumford, Elvis Costello and others. Elvis is getting upstaged and doesn't like it.
