A California man is believed to have stolen from a Wichita Falls Walmart went back to retrieve the Bible he accidentally left behind, officials say.
Walmart employees called police about 10 p.m. Wednesday after Joshua Wilhoit, 27, left the store with about $100 worth of clothes, food and electronics, the Wichita Falls Times Record News reported.
The man returned to retrieve his Bible, which he had left behind, and went to a nearby Panda Express restaurant, the paper reported.
When police arrived, Wilhoit took off down a road, behind several stores, over a fence and then into a wooded area.
Officers who surrounded the area eventually found him and took the man back to the store for employees to identify.
Wilhoit was charged with theft and evading arrest, according to jail records. He has been held at the Wichita Falls County jail on $2,000 bail since Thursday.
According to Orange County, Calif., and Wichita Falls records, Wilhoit has no prior theft convictions.

(50,559 posts)What I would sentence him to:
1) Reimburse Walmart for any food item he stole that had to be thrown away.
2) Purchase two of everything he stole, and donate one of each to a secular charity.
3) Present to the court, after an entire day of listening to cases as a spectator, a one-hour Bible study focused on Exodus 20.15, which is only four words: thou shalt not steal. Describe how a similar passage exists not only in the scripture of every religion, but in all books of law and all military academy honor codes.

If youre convinced he needs jail, how about giving him next Christmas behind bars? Or a Christmas and an Easter?
